The Pearl River Woodcarving Guild meets on the third Monday night of each month at Brandon City Hall / Senior Center, 1403 West Government Street, Brandon, MS. Meetings are from 6:30 p.m. until 8:30 p.m.Meetings feature various speakers and artisans providing informative seminars and workshops. The public is welcome.Check activities and get free wood carving patterns on our web-site.A typical meeting of the club consists of a word of welcome by the president, introduction of guests, presenting of a carving project consisting of a cut-out and a pattern, a “Show and Tell” time, and special programs, and a “Give-Away” of donated items related to woodcarving.
The club maintains a library of a large number of books about woodcarving and related subjects that can be checked out by the membership.
From the inception of the Pearl River Woodcarvers organization we have made the carving of a cut-out the heart of our meetings. The cut-outs are done mostly with donated basswood and water tupelo. About twenty cut-outs are sawn on two sides using a band saw. A pattern is provided with each cut-out. The patterns are taken from books and magazines and at times are original patterns done by club members. All patterns and surplus copies are kept on file for future use. During our meetings the experienced carvers sit with beginner carvers and give them help when needed.
